Kitchen Tile – Installation Easy?

Many DIY sites say that kitchen tile installation is easy. And it is… IF YOU KNOW HOW to install tile!
If you don’t.. then it is not. And that is why you are here.Photobucket

Welcome! I want to help you in the right direction for your kitchen tile installation project.

As a Restoration Contractor I thought I knew enough to lay tile in my own kitchen. After all I had done dozens and dozens of home repairs involving tile installation. Well, I found that I had to learn more DETAILS about laying tile or I was going to make a big mess… and be laughed at by my subcontractors!

After working in so many kitchens with different types of damage I thought I knew something about tile installation. I knew a good job of laying tile from a bad one. And I assure you quality is very important in insurance restoration repairs… satisfying both homeowners and adjusters… But looking at a tile job (being done by a professional tile installer) and doing it myself was two different things.

See Making Tile Simple video series.

OK, I bought a book from Lowe’s. AND THEN I called my tile subcontractor over and over for HELP! The ceramic tile books, DIY sites, etc. don’t tell you the DETAILS! Like: backsplashes; doorways; differences in wet saws; thinset consistency (you need to see it); and on and on….
Video training is better. You need to SEE so much of what is done.
And I’m a visual learner for sure.

MakingTileSimple is that professional that can lead you through this. The instructor has been doing ceramic tile installation for over 20 years and doing his video training series “Tile Made Easy” for over 2 years. He has help literally thousands of regular folks like you have a successful kitchen tile laying project.

The video training starts at the very beginning and takes you all the way through your tile project. The instructor is a “hands on” country boy that just tells it like it is. He has had virtually no refunds on his training videos. Why? He is personally available to anyone to answer any questions… by email and… AND his CELL PHONE!! Now who else does that??

Install Marble Tile in Your Home

To install marble tile in your own home can be a great diy project. A quality installation can really add to your home’s appeal. Even though all types of tile will add to the value of your home, marble tiling has even more flare and beauty. PhotobucketBut when you install marble there are special things to know that are different from regular tile. Marble will need to be handled somewhat differently than regular ceramic tile.

Installing tile yourself can be a very good home project. Find the details of installation can present some definite challenges. There are many questions that arise when starting such as types of thin-set to use, different tools such as tile cutters, and on and on. One area that first timers find difficult is mixing the thin-set. The consistency is very important especially on walls as the tile will be harder to set if the mixture is too thin.

Getting professional help and advice is a good idea unless you have done some tile work before. You may have a friend or know a professional tile layer that can help you with find out those elusive details. If not you should be as prepared as you can by other sources.

There is a special video series just on marble installation that will help you with a quality job and from making serious, expensive mistakes. This is another course by the experienced country tile setter with his “to the point” way of showing you step by step all the details you will need.

Kitchen Tile Installation

As a residential contractor, I have recently done a Do-It-Yourself project in my home of kitchen tile installation. There are some good reasons you can and should do your own tile installation in your home:

We saved a great deal of money. About 50 to 65% of the cost of installing tile is in the labor. And quite frankly, professional tile installers would rather be doing larger, higher volume jobs than a simple kitchen in a home. So they are not going to do it unless they are paid well.

Every time I walk into our kitchen and bathroom that my wife and I tiled last summer I still enjoy the idea that we did it ourselves. There is great satisfaction in learning to do a craft and seeing the end result especially in your own home.

Finally, the project can be done on your own schedule and like you want it done. The job is going to make a mess of part of you home for a while and you need to be able to schedule it around your life, not a professional tile installer’s. Use your vacation, your spring break, etc. You also have the flexibility to make changes as you go.

Of course, there are reasons you should be cautious about doing the tiling installation yourself. Ask yourself these questions:

Do you have enough personal time to complete the job? And be sure you have made adequate plans on how you want the tile done and how it will look when finished. You should also be prepared with enough knowledge of installing tile to make it a real success.

An upgrade to your home by installing ceramic tile is a good investment. Especially if you do-it-yourself. Our personal bathroom project was well worth the effort. And we get to see and enjoy what we have done everyday. I know a lot people that have done similar projects with good results.

My wife and my project was not without some problems, but we learned and over came them. And we are looking forward to doing more tile installation in our home.
